Job Description

REQUIREMENTS: ➢ A Registered Nurse possessing a current Ontario Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and Medication Administration Certificate. ➢ Experience in a long-term care setting. Maturity and good physical and mental health, empathy, patience and tact are important qualities to possess. ➢ Skills and leadership abilities in supervising other nursing personnel is a must. Must be able to communicate in English including written documentation. ➢ Proficiency in a second language consistent with the resident population is an asset. ➢ Post basic education in Gerontology or management or three (3) years relevant long-term care experience preferred. ➢ Genuine interest in and concern for residents. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: ➢ This is a resource assignment. To be assigned to different units as needed. ➢ To participate in doctors’ rounds, supporting continuity of care and accountability in clinical decision-making. ➢ Handles the clinical program as well as other duties assigned to support overall operations. ➢ Assesses the needs of individual residents and organizes the provision of resident care. Develops the Resident Care Plan. ➢ Assists in planning assignments for self and HCA/PSW accordingly to provide for effective resident care. ➢ Supervise the nursing care given by HCA/PSW in accordance with the Resident Care Plans and the Resident Bill of Rights and MOH and LTC Standards. ➢ Promotes positive team spirit within the department and the facility. Hold RHA meetings. Supports the home’s collective agreements. Completes staff call-ins. ➢ Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with medical and allied staff, residents, and families. ➢ Provides direct resident care, in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies and procedures. ➢ Maintains accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed. ➢ Maintains a good attendance record, according to the company policy. ➢ Adheres to the position description in the Human Resources Manual for Registered Nurses. WORKING CONDITIONS: ➢ Prolonged standing and walking. Lifting and moving residents, equipment and supplies. Repeated bending and stooping. Exposure to resident elements through regular resident contact. Some stress resulting from dealing with resident care needs and time pressures. Some use of visual and auditory sense in monitoring conditions of residents during care. Physical requirements as per the job description. Health and safety as per the job description.
