Job Description

The LTC Consultant- Quality and Compliance reports to the Senior Manager of Compliance, within the Extendicare Corporate Quality and Risk department. This position will coordinate legislative/regulatory compliance activities across long-term care, and support home compliance adherence. Supporting Extendicare’s Quality and Operations teams, the Consultant will drive measurable compliance, safety, quality assurance and risk outcomes across all of Extendicare’s homes.

Responsibilities

  • Support homes - with approximately 75% time spent in homes - in meeting legislative/regulatory requirements for Extendicare’s Long Term Care operations across Canada, including in person visits/inspections, development of the action plan related to areas of non-compliance, implementation of the actions, and development of a sustainability plan.

  • Collaborates with operational leaders across homes in the monitoring of compliance activities, including identification of compliance trends.

  • Maintains strong knowledge of long-term care regulatory/legislative and compliance requirements across Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta

  • Actively participates and supports with Accreditation activities, including coordinating mock surveys, education sessions, and working groups.

  • Works in partnership with Risk and Quality leads in advancing a resident safety culture.

  • Works in partnership with IPAC, Risk, Quality, clinical and other head office functions, in meeting Accreditation standards, and preparing for quality assurance surveys.

  • Contributes to the development of new policies and guidelines as required, in accordance with regulatory compliance needs.

  • Participates in the delivery of education programs as required,

  • Participates in the development of new programs, in collaboration with department and other corporate and operational stakeholders, as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Member in good standing with provincial nursing regulatory college.

  • Nursing degree preferred

  • 10+ years’ experience in long-term care in an operational or quality leadership role

  • Understanding of LTC industry legislative requirements and continuous quality improvement (CQI) principles and approaches

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with others

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail and superior organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills, including use of Excel

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and use business intelligence and reporting tools

  • Aptitude to grow further project management and program management skills

  • Client service orientation and ability to liaison with internal and external stakeholders
