  • 1 poste à combler dès que possible

The École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is a rapidly growing engineering and technology university located in downtown Montréal. ÉTS offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs focused on applied engineering, as well as a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, and a dynamic and supportive organization. ÉTS is also home to Centech, a business incubator that provides support services to researchers who wish to commercialize their research.

When you join ÉTS, you will connect with highly active research professors in the school's various laboratories, chairs, and research groups. Your work will contribute significantly to scientific progress and the development of Quebec's productivity and competitiveness, as well as to the training of a highly skilled workforce.

What we offer:
  • Start-up funds to support your scientific endeavours;

  • Financial support arrangements for research and teaching (recognition of academic supervision of students, time off for research, assistance with grading, etc.);

  • A customized onboarding and integration process;

  • A platform for disseminating your research work, as well as networking activities to raise your profile and help you recruit students;

  • A work environment conducive to the development of your career in research and teaching;

  • A mentoring program for faculty members during onboarding and throughout their careers;

  • Support for immigration and relocation processes for you and your family;

  • A comprehensive French language learning program.

Our department offers a large range of study programs, covering both undergraduate and graduate levels. These programs are taught by a faculty with complementary expertise, fostering the development of innovative, multidisciplinary approaches. We also encourage interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments, including aerospace engineering, automated manufacturing engineering, software engineering, and electrical engineering, to successfully complete ambitious and innovative projects.

Hands-on learning is central to our teaching approach. Our students have the opportunity to work on real-world projects, participate in simulations, workshops, and design challenges that stimulate their creativity and technical skills. These initiatives go far beyond simple theoretical exercises: they are part of advanced research dynamic and bring real added value to the field of mechanical engineering. By collaborating closely with government agencies, industry companies, and research laboratories, we give our programs an applied dimension that aligns with market needs.

The department is seeking to recruit a professor in mechanical Engineering. The ideal candidate should possess a broad knowledge of mechanical engineering, with a specialization in mechanical design, focused on a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to the problem. This approach aims to develop sustainable solutions that improve the societal, economic, and environmental impacts throughout the entire lifecycle.

Your expertise should be focused on one or more of the following research fields:

  • Multi-objective optimization in the design of mechanical systems to reduce energy consumption and minimize environmental impacts at every stage, including manufacturing, use, and recycling;

  • Design of mechanical systems using environmentally friendly processes and recycled materials, integrating principles of the circular economy;

  • Design of mechanical systems aimed at increasing transmitted loads while reducing wear and friction;

  • Design of mechanical systems focused on increasing allowable loads while reducing weight;

  • Design of mechanical systems intended to enhance the robustness and reliability of manufactured components;

  • Eco-responsible design, including the development of products that are easy to disassemble and recycle, and that incorporate sustainably manufactured components;

  • Design approaches aimed at optimizing manufacturing process efficiency in order to reduce energy consumption and residual material generation;

  • Design strategies to optimize transportation systems and their management, with the goal of improving energy efficiency.

You will be expected to demonstrate advanced skills and competencies in the design of complex mechanical systems, taking into account the various aspects of the problem, and to propose concrete solutions for the transfer and integration of these concepts into industry.

Depending on your research expertise and interests, you may join one of the following research groups: Dynamo - Dynamics of Machines, Structures, and Processes, or the Product, Process, and Systems Engineering Laboratory (LIPPS).

As part of a dynamic research team, you will be expected to:

  • Teach at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels in fields related to mechanical engineering;

  • Provide academic supervision to graduate students;

  • Develop research programs;

  • Apply for funding and grants, particularly from Quebec, Canadian, or international government agencies, industry, municipalities, and foundations;

  • Carry out subsidized or contract research projects for industry and workplaces;

  • Report the developments, results and impact of your scientific research.

  • Have a doctorate (Ph.D.) in a field relevant to the position, or be close to obtaining it;

  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or a Canadian professional order of engineering, or be eligible for membership and take the necessary steps to become a member before submitting your application for tenure;

  • Have research experience in collaboration with industry or industrial experience in R&D;

  • Demonstrate excellent skills in training highly qualified employees through research projects and teaching;

  • Be fluent in spoken and written French in accordance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French) or be willing to learn French and begin a Francization process facilitated by ÉTS.

Depending on the candidate's availability

All applications will be handled confidentially.

We will consider the impact of leaves of absence that may have caused interruptions or slowdowns in your career. For this reason, we encourage you to indicate any leaves of absence that may have had an impact on your career path. We will take this information into consideration when evaluating your application.

Your application must be submitted by February 23, 2026, 11:59 p.m. (EST).

The application must include all of the following documents in a single PDF file , in the following order:

  • an automatic (dynamic) table of contents,

  • a cover letter,

  • a CV,

  • a teaching plan that includes your teaching and student supervision philosophy, your teaching methods and objectives, and the courses you have already taught and can teach in the short, medium, and long-term;

  • a research plan that includes a description of how your proposed research aligns with the research areas of an ÉTS department or research group;

  • a sample of your research achievements (e.g., recent scientific articles).

Please consult our FAQ for more information.

Only complete applications will be considered for evaluation. Only those selected to participate in the process will be contacted.

We are seeking applications for a position leading to tenure, which is open to all academic ranks.
