The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Payroll Specialist. This job is full-time permanent.

Overview:

The payroll group has as a mission to manage the payroll operations within a timeframe, conform to the fiscal rules and regulations in addition to the policies and procedures of the company.

Your role will consist to produce, by collaborating with the coordination team, the pay of all unionized and non-unionized employees of all Domtar’s divisions in a timely and accurate manner ensuring quality of information generated.

Your Challenges:

  • Carry out activities relating to Canadian and US payroll production within the required deadlines in accordance with fiscal regulations and Domtar’s policies and procedures;
  • Enter data for Family Support and garnishment;
  • Reconcile payroll records and solve discrepancies in collaboration with the Finance department if needed;
  • Balance and prepare payments for various suppliers;
  • Production of various monthly reports;
  • Respond to requests from internal and external clients;
  • Participate to the year-end activities for the Canadian and US payroll and ensure accurate and timely processing;
  • Participate to the integration, the testing and the implementation of payroll system enhancements, interfaces and tax updates;
  • Participate to special projects as required.

Your Skills:

  • Ability to execute responsibilities with a minimum amount of coaching;
  • Bilingual, French (Intermediate) and English*, both spoken and written.


*This is required since as part of this function, you will have to intervene with customers, partners and/or our American subsidiaries on a recurring basis, both orally and in writing.

Your Profile:

  • College diploma in administration or accounting;
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ of experience in a similar position;
  • Experience with payroll for employees living in another province
  • Experience with self-processing a volume of 400 employee or more
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Software, particularly with Excel.
  • Experience with unionized payroll an asset
  • Experience with T4/R1 summary production an asset
  • Experience with DAS remittances an asset
  • Experience with third-party remittances such as CNESST, WSIB or EHT an asset
  • Member of the Canadian Payroll Association or the American Payroll Association is an asset;
  • Experience with a major payroll software application as well as knowledge of the SAP system will be considered strong assets;
  • Experience with American payroll is an asset
  • Good knowledge of payroll rules;

Though working hours are usually set, there are peak periods requiring a great deal of availability.
