The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Legal Counsel. This job is full-time permanent.
Overview: The Legal Counsel is responsible in providing legal services and advising the Wood Products Business Unit personnel from various departments and facilities related to the Unit’s activities and operations, ensuring that the Unit and the Paper Excellence Group’s objectives and interests are protected and furthered, as well as carried out in a manner that is in conformity with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
Your Challenges:
- Provide legal services and support related to contractual matters such as procurement/sales matters, including the drafting, negotiation and revising of procurement/sales agreements.
- Manage litigation matters of the Unit with the support of external counsels if needed.
- Work on general commercial matters related to the Unit.
- Provide legal support on projects of group-wide importance (such as restructurings, significant mill projects and M&A).
- Provide legal advice and training related to compliance and policy matters for the Unit.
Your Skills:
- Knowledgeable, experienced, autonomous, and effective.
- Client focused.
- Ability to work under pressure and to manage various matters.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills both in writing and orally.
- Ability to understand and clearly explain complex topics to a range of stakeholders.
Your Profile:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and member of the Quebec bar.
- Must be fluent in French and Engligh (both in writing and orally)*.
- At least 5 years of experience in the related areas with a law firm or company legal department.
- Occasional travel for in-person meetings with the other in-house attorneys, internal clients and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of forestry, natural resources, environment and/or international trade is a plus.
- Prior in-house experience in or related to the pulp and paper industry is a plus.
