Supervisor, Internal Controls & Budgeting

Reporting to the Controller of Finance, the successful applicant will be a key part of the DSBN's Financial Services Department, helping DSBN meet its accounting compliance standards through accurate analysis, auditing, and other key accounting duties.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) or acceptable equivalent is required.
- University degree in Business, Commerce, Finance or Accounting.
- A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated successful work experience in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, procurement and/or process review, preferably working in or with the public sector.
- A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience, preferably in a multi unionized environment.
- Experience in a unionized setting is preferred.
- Experience with Public Sector Accounting (PSA) and not-for-profit accounting standards is preferred.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, Adobe, and Microsoft Business Central.
- Ability to deal with competing priorities, multiple demands and constant deadlines.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Excellent project management and time management skills.
- Proven supervisory experience with strong leadership, mentoring and team building skills.
- Strong mathematical, research, analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
- Proven conflict resolution skills and the ability to develop a culture of high trust, collaboration, and engagement.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals both within and outside the DSBN.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage key elements of DSBN's internal control environment.
- Ensure appropriate controls exist to safeguard the assets of the DSBN.
- Recommend efficiencies with all financial processes.
- Develop and maintain appropriate control reviews of system access
- Complete internal control reviews of schools and vendor management
- Provide in-house technical and software support for the DSBN's financial accounting systems, including liaising with the Information Technology Services for system-wide implementation
- Assist with the preparation of the DSBN's annual budget and revised estimates
- Support the Controller of Finance with the management of the Financial Services Department
- Supervise the budgeting process and oversight of key financial processes
Salary range: $ 86,355 - $ 100,976. Includes a competitive benefits plan through a provincial benefits trust plan (extended health, dental, life insurance, AD&D). Enrolment in OMERS pension plan. This is a 12-month 35-hour-per-week position and is part of the Board's union-exempt Administrative Management Group.
