TITLE:
Cultural Coordinator SUPERVISOR: First Line Services Prevention Supervisor DEPARTMENT: Health SALARY: As per TFN salary scale (qualification(s) and/or experience will be considered)

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the First Line Services Prevention Supervisor, the Cultural Coordinator is responsible to promote and organize traditional cultural activities within the TFN members, evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the TFN Cultural Program and develop program improvement recommendation and coordinate traditional ceremonies as needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote and organize traditional culture activities within the Timiskaming First Nation (TFN). • Ensure that TFN is informed of the cultural programs and services available and that these services are promoted within the TFN • Research organizational practices of similar programs in other communities. • Ensure TFN community members have access to a variety of culturally oriented programs. • Produce all activity reports required by funding partners and agencies. • Prepare a yearly workplan and ensure proper promotion of activities. • Evaluate what activities and workshops will best meet program requirements and priorities.

Continue to improve and develop the culture program delivery and make improvements and modifications.
• Ensure operational goals and objectives are met within their individual work plan with measures and targets assigned for each goal and objective. • Follow-up with com Organizes traditional programming, such as feasts and ceremonies, arranges the attendance and participation. • Provide recommendations on planning and development of TFN Cultural Program. • Recommend the best strategies to increase participation in cultural activity initiatives. • Maintains up to date Elder/Knowledge Keeper list.

Coordinate and participate in TFN Cultural Program activities.
• Coordinate community culture programs and events (i.e. pow wow, sweat lodge, full moon ceremonies etc.) • Works as a team member, striving to create a healthy and happy atmosphere of caring, growth, learning, creativity, and respect, utilizes the seven Grandfather Teachings. • Ensure program objectives are achieved. • Establish and maintain communication links with other established committees and organizations as they relate to cultural activities. • Develop partnerships with outside cultural organizations. • Fosters and maintains positive and productive relationships with the children, parents/caregivers, family, community, professionals, and co-workers. • Maintains, orders and is responsible for ensuring inventory of the program supplies, materials, and resources.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Relevant education, skills and experience in indigenous/Algonquin culture. • Recognized and respected within the TFN community for providing traditional leadership to children/youth in the community • Ongoing involvement with Indigenous culture and traditions, comprehensive knowledge, understanding and awareness of Indigenous traditions, ceremony, teachings, and practices • Vulnerable Sector Check.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: • Knowledge of the TFN Algonquin history, traditional Culture, language and heritage. • Knowledge of TFN services, administrative and operational policies, procedures and reporting practices. • Knowledge of Algonquin culture and traditions. • Practice healthy living and be drug and alcohol free. • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs, email and internet. • Good verbal and written communication skills. • Organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize. • Budget management for the program and other initiatives (such as; Pow Wow, fundraisers etc.). • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment. • Ability to represent TFN with a professional image.
