Summary of Function:
The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government is seeking to employ an energetic, collaborative, self-motivated individual to work as a Behavior Interventionist at Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. Under the supervision of the Vice Principle to Special Education, the Behavior Interventionist is responsible for working with students, teachers and families to implement learning programs that are designed to address Individualized Education Plans (IEP). The Behavior Interventionist is required to provide classroom support and small group support to students who have a Individualized Education Plan to be followed.

Job Duties:
  • Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives and visitors at all times.
  • Provide therapy to students with neurodiversity according to the IEP created by the clinical team.
  • Act in the capacity of a positive role model for all students
  • Engaging and interacting with students in an enjoyable way to foster a positive learning relationship.
  • Working in collaboration with the Methods and Resources Department.
  • Collecting data and summarizing data for the clinical team to track student’s progress; communicating as needed with your supervisor to ensure continued learning.
  • Desire to engage in ongoing learning; being receptive to feedback and implementing suggestions.
  • Take direction from the Methods and Resources Department
  • Provide individualized mentoring and supervision to students on IEP’s using various strategies and tools aimed at assisting them in attaining their educational goals.
  • Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers.
  • Actively participate in meetings with the Methods and Resources team upon request.
  • Demonstrate strong communications skills with teachers, support personnel and school administrators and students.
  • Motivate the students in regard to their academics.
  • Assist students in establishing routines and organizational skills.
  • Maintain a daily log on students’ behavior.
  • Provide written reports upon request.
  • Other related responsibilities may be assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or any other related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Mi’gmaq culture and community.
  • Must provide a Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation needs, issues, concerns and aspirations.
