SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who conducts socially oriented activities in accordance with the techniques specific to her/his profession.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
In accordance with the policies and procedures of the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB), and within the framework of the Youth Protection Act (YPA), the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), the Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services (AHSSS), and the Community Miyupimaatisiiun Centres (CMC) mandate, the person provides support, intervention, and referrals to youth, children, families, and community members, ensuring access to appropriate services and resources.
• Assess the service needs of youth, children, and parents assigned under the Youth Protection Act or the Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services, provide support and guidance, and refer them to appropriate resources as required;
• Receive and review reports concerning children, conduct an initial analysis, and determine whether a more comprehensive evaluation is necessary;
• When required, facilitate referrals for emergency interventions and support the continuity of assessment, treatment, and follow-up services in accordance with applicable legislation and established practices;
• In keeping with the responsibilities associated with the position, refer individuals and families to regional Youth Protection Department services for the implementation and follow-up of psychosocial intervention plans developed to meet the needs of the department's clientele.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
• Must hold a College Diploma (DEC) in Social Work Techniques or another relevant college discipline from an educational institution recognized by the appropriate ministry.
• Candidates who hold a College Studies Certificate (AEC) in Social Work Techniques or Social Assistance Techniques are also eligible.
• Applicants holding an Attestation of College Studies (AEC) in Educators in Native Childcare Services or Special Needs Education for Aboriginal and Inuit Children may also be considered.
Please note that applicants who do not meet the above-mentioned educational requirements may be considered for this position if they possess the following alternative profile:
Education:
• Must hold a High School Diploma from an educational institution recognized by the appropriate ministry.
Experience:
• Must have 3 years of experience in the field of Youth Protection;
• Must have successfully completed the PCFI training program.
Knowledge and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the Youth Protection Act (YPA), the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), and the Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services (AHSSS), including their legal aspects and clinical concepts;
• Knowledge of and experience with public and community health prevention and promotion approaches, methods, issues, and programs; experience in First Nations communities is considered an asset;
• Knowledge of MSSS programs and regulations related to first-line services is an asset;
• Knowledge of Cree culture and of social and health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
• Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Miyupimaatisiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
• Good understanding of developmental psychology and social development;
• Ability to work effectively with the target clientele;
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills;
• Strong critical thinking, organizational, and decision-making skills;
• Self-motivated, proactive, flexible, discreet, and empathetic;
• Excellent communication skills, including group facilitation, report writing, and presentations;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office-related computer applications;
• Willingness to undergo training on the PIJ application.
LANGUAGE
• Fluent in Cree and English;
• French is an asset.
OTHER
• Must hold a valid Class 5 driver's licence that meets the requirements of the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) and the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ);
• Work schedule consists of three (3) 10-hour shifts during the first week and four (4) 10-hour shifts during the second week, on a biweekly rotating schedule.
