SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who, without having a diploma as a Community Worker or a Social Assistance Technician and within the limits of her/his skills and training, does work that is similar in nature and related to that of a Community Worker or a Social Assistance Technician.
CONTEXT OF THE POSITION
The Healthy Eeyou Youth worker will provide emotional, physical and social support while delivering a high quality of care to youth. The community’s healthy Eeyou youth worker will promote the advancement of life-skills, foster cultural and community connections, and assist with daily routines.
This position is about programming fun activities for youth to create positive experiences for youth in the community and outside of the community setting. Team members will work in small, tight-knit groups, requiring strong interpersonal and social skills.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
• Organize activities to promote healthy lifestyle, harm reduction and coping skills;
• Create positive opportunities for youth;
• Facilitate and animate activities at the Uskaau Ihtuuwin space and in other youth friendly environment;
• Implements support plans independently or in collaboration with the Uskaau ihtuuwin team;
• Accompany youth in different youth settings (Youth center, clinic, Schools, land-based, etc.);
• Partake and support organization of community events;
• Assist the H.E.Y worker in planning and organizing activities;
• Gather data from the youth population and identifies emerging themes of where support is needed;
• Participate in outreach, health promotion, and prevention initiatives;
• Work in tight knitted group along the Eenou Youth Life Coach and the H.E.Y worker;
• Collaborate with Youth department, Youth council, Recreation Department and Cultural Department;
• Support current services within the community.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
• High School diploma.
Knowledge and abilities:
• Be available and motivated to develop skills through training, needed to perform some of the specific functions listed here and other relevant training topics;
• Excellent active listening skills;
• Understand behavioral motivation;
• Understand Cree culture;
• Excellent critical thinking skills;
• Knowledgeable about community resources;

LANGUAGE
• Fluent in Cree and English;
• Fluent in French is an asset.
