SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
A person who is responsible for providing nursing care services according to the bio-psycho-social needs of users or groups under her/his care. She/he evaluates the health condition of users, as well as determines and implements nursing care and treatment plans. She/he provides nursing and medical care and treatment aimed at maintaining and restoring health, as well as preventing disease.
She/he plans, provides and evaluates teaching activities intended for the users, their relatives and groups of people. In addition, she/he participates in research activities aimed at promoting health and preventing disease.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
The nurse for this position works for the Sampling Center under the Community Miyupimaatisiiun (health) Centre (CMC) which offers front-line services and community health for the local population of Mistissini:
• Proceeds to collecting the samples from a patient for laboratory analysis according to a prescription or care plan;
• Collaborates with all health professionals such as doctors and all nurses in the department and with partners;
• Collaborates in the collection of information relating to the patient's health history in link with the activities of the sampling center;
• Participates in the development and improvement of the service;
• Guide and assist the licensed practical nurses;
• Observes, measures and records users' temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure;
• Makes sure users receive treatment prescribed by doctors and other health professionals;
• Assists in emergency situations;
• Administer routine vaccinations and/or giving injection;
• Carries out other tasks usually assigned to a Nurse upon the request of her/his supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
• Member of the Order of Quebec Nurses (O.I.I.Q.);
• DEC in Nursing.
Experience:
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a nurse.
Knowledge and Abilities:
• Knowledge of Cree culture and social and health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
• Good resistance to stress;
• Excellent communication and listening skills;
• Take initiative and be autonomous;
• Open to other’s culture, ability to adapt to change and to a new environment;
• Show interest and empathy towards others;
• Possess a capacity for analysis and synthesis.
Language:
• Fluent in English;
• Fluency in Cree or French is an asset.
