SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who participates in the identification of the needs of the population, participates in the community organization & development and executes different action programs by using appropriate techniques, may act as a resource person for the groups.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS* Intervenes with people or groups of people who encounter social problems (mentally challenged, drug addiction, integration problems, suicide, etc.); * Responds to situations following a referral;* Uses different methods, approaches and techniques (individual interview, group facilitation, social activities, etc.) to intervene effectively with the clients and their family;* Take care of the logistics and facilitate the process of Family Group Conferencing;* Able to remain neutral in respect to the requests of the clients;* Receives and assesses service requests from individual users or groups and refers them to the appropriate programs, services or resources;* Works in close collaboration with social workers and other employees within the Nishiiyuu department;
* Participates in the intervention plans;* Perform all other related tasks as required by the Coordinator of Nishiiyuu department.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:

  • Must have a diploma of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques or another appropriate specialization from a school recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport;
  • This job title also includes those who have a certificate of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques;
  • Applicants with an attestation of college studies as educators in Indigenous Childcare Services or Special Needs Indigenous Children educators may be considered;
  • Completed the Charlie Training or is willing to follow the training.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Nishiiyuu programs;
  • Knowledge of Cree culture and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee;
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
  • Ability to communicate with people, to conduct interviews and to establish and maintain a ''helping relationship with beneficiaries'';
  • Ability to work in collaboration with Youth Protection and Youth Healing Services, CMC Community workers, NNADAP workers, other medical social services staff and other organizations within and outside the community;
  • Must show initiative, be dynamic, exhibit responsibility and professionalism;
  • Must be sensitive to issues within the family unit.

LANGUAGE* Fluent in Cree and English;* Fluency in French is an asset.

OTHER* Willingness to take trainings such as:
o Complex Trauma Training;
o Cree Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution (CCICR).
