Day In the Life

The Highway Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring AMC contract compliance while leading daily highway maintenance operations. Oversees resource allocation, safety, budgeting, and supervision of staff, builds strong relationships with MTO partners, and drives performance through effective coaching, training, and operational leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all performance requirements under the Area Maintenance Contract (AMC) are met, including full compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Optimize the allocation of resources-both personnel and equipment-to improve operational efficiency, maximize utilization, and control costs.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Ministry of Transportation (MTO) representatives and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide daily coaching, guidance, and task allocation to Patrol Supervisors to support effective field operations.
  • Assist the Project Manager in ensuring the team has the necessary resources, training, and support to meet contract expectations.
  • Promote and enforce a safety-first culture, ensuring full compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations for employees, contractors, and the public.
  • Oversee all operational activities, including supervision of administrative staff and frontline supervisors.
  • Understand all elements of assigned contracts and ensure all operational and reporting obligations are fulfilled.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members to uphold high standards of performance, productivity, and service quality.
  • Manage cost allocation, budget adherence, and ongoing optimization of operational expenditures.
  • Ensure all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the highest standards of service delivery to the client (MTO).
Qualifications
  • 5 years of supervisory experience with demonstrated knowledge of building a strong, dynamic, highly functional team
  • Experience in the highway maintenance and/or road construction industry including significant budgetary and supervisory responsibilities
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field, considered an asset
  • Must maintain a valid Class G Driver’s License, DZ will be considered an asset
  • Ability to work the maintenance schedule which may include weekends and/or night shift
  • Sound financial knowledge of accrual accounting and budgeting an asset
  • Knowledge of OTM Book 7 traffic control will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the applicable OH&S legislations and MTO specifications an asset
Compensation Data

Targeting $82,000 - 95,000 per annum
