Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Operations Program Coordination or designate, this position is responsible for but not limited to, a variety of duties related to the maintenance and operational activities of the Works Operations and Maintenance Division.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine patrols of city roads to identify and document deficiencies.
  • Provide response to after hours emergency or urgent issues.
  • Monitor and communicate weather and road conditions to assist in deployment of seasonal maintenance services.
  • Operate leaf vacuum and leaf blower to clean leaves from ditches and curbs.
  • Rake along ditches and curbs.
  • Remove snow and salts streets, sidewalks, building grounds and other areas.
  • Load snow and debris into carts or trucks.
  • Spread salt on sidewalks, bus stops and intersections for snow and ice control.
  • Operate City vehicles and machinery as required.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Please note C.S.A. approved green patch safety boots are required to perform the duties of this position.

Hours of Work/Shift Work

  • 40 hrs/week, working weekends, shift work, and holidays.
  • This position requires occasional overtime.
  • May be assigned to any of the four work districts and relocated during the term to assist with operational needs.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent;
  • Previous experience/knowledge related to general outdoor maintenance or the construction industry is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and clean driving record. A driver's abstract will be required to verify a driving record in good standing. DZ license is considered an asset.
  • Ability to operate computers and digital devices.
  • Ability to carry out the full range of physical demands of the position such as heavy lifting, pulling and carrying heavy equipment and objects.
  • Ability to effectively work independently or as part of a team, be self-motivated and cooperative.
  • Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills along with strong customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Availability and dependability to work overtime as required.
  • Must have general knowledge of Health and Safety.
