As a Parks Person III, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of parks where families gather, children play, and communities thrive.
In this hands-on position, you'll have the opportunity to keep the parks litter-free and inviting through regular sanitation efforts, and enhance the experience of park visitors.
- Maintain sanitation routes and schedules related to Parks Sanitation Collection standards across various parks and outdoor areas throughout the year.
- Assisting with litter collection
- Ensuring timely and thorough removal of litter from designated areas
- Oversee garbage collection throughout the event to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards. Litter picking duties will also fall under their purview, ensuring that our parks and event areas remain pristine and inviting for attendees
- Perform winter maintenance as needed; including but not limited to; hand shovelling, plowing, and de-icing
- Lifting equipment and materials, digging, driving, snow removal, walking, repetitive motion
- Driving sanitization trucks and park vehicles on park pathways and roads
- Operating loud equipment for long duration, hand-eye coordination
- Working in parks through varing weather conditions, populated areas, contaminants of various kinds, and exposure to, at times, working adjacent to water and waterways
- Some exposure to Extreme Weather (winter storms, extreme heat)
- Other duties related to parks as assigned by the Manager, Supervisor, and colleagues providing functional guidance
- High-School diploma required; post- secondary education an asset
- Possess an Ontario Driver's License, Class G2 or higher, with a driving record that is acceptable to the City. Please note that successful applicants will need to successfully complete the City's driver training.
- Emergency First Aid Certification will be required
- Proficient with MS Office, Outlook, and capable computer skills
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting, including heavy lifting up to 55lbs
- Understanding of applicable Health and Safety regulations and Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Moderate lifting of equipment and objects (up to 55lbs)
- Physical work in a variety of conditions (warm and humid to freezing)
Successful applicants will be expected to meet the following working conditions:
- Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week), including nights, evenings, weekends and holidays during the employment period
- Must report to work in all weather conditions- outdoor work environment
- Flexible to work in a variety of locations, employees may be relocated to another location at any time throughout the work-term based on operational needs
- Wearing Green Patch CSA approved safety boots
- Physical Demands: Moderate lifting of equipment and objects up to 55 lbs; exposure to vibration, unpleasant smells, fumes, dust, and flying particles; exposure to grass, weeds, trees and other outdoor allergens, animal feces and various insects; requires bending, climbing, walking, pushing, sitting, standing and repetitive motion.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 19.80 - $ 23.53
