Our team is seeking Dynamic music instructors to teach Evening and Weekend Music Programs. These instructors will often be the first music instructor many participants will have, so they have the important role as early influencer on the participants’ involvement in music. Successful candidates will be responsible for conducting an engaging class that meets the program outline and department standards, requiring practical experience and a high level of knowledge in the instrument(s) they will be teaching.

- Provide music instruction for participants in specific instruments as outlined by the program outline.
- Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
- Monitor participant progress on an on-going basis and manage participants’ behavior to ensure safety.
- Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants by adhering to department Safety and Recreational Program Standards.
- Use creative teaching approaches to meet the individual needs of participants.
- Ensure program space is appropriate and set up to maximize program delivery potential and safety of participants.
- Provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to parents of participants.
- Promote program and provide information for progression in the music program.
- Ensure all participants are registered correctly into programs, maintain attendance lists and perform any additional administrative task as required.
- Complete report cards and certificates for the participants of the program as required.
- Complete Accident/Incident forms as required
- Maintain confidentiality of children’s information
- Prepare detailed lessons plans (including HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development, if appropriate) to ensure classes are meeting requirements outlined in program plan.
- Prepare a presentation for end of session Parent’s Day to highlight achievements of the participants
- Find and prepare music that is appropriate for the program and matches technical requirements for participants
- HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
- Experience with specialized instruments related to program and/or general academic qualification in music.
- A Level 3 - Vulnerable check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR B Certification.
- Experience working with children, teens and adults.
- A high degree of tact and diplomacy with appropriate leadership skills.
- Primarily community centre environment.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $22.78 - $30.38
