As the Assistant Project Manager, you will be based primarily at the Davie shipyard in Lévis. You will work collaboratively in support of the Deputy Program Director, the Program Management Office (PMO), and Davie’s functional departments to ensure that all aspects of the Polar Max project are delivered successfully. This includes detailed design, equipment procurement, and shipbuilding readiness and execution.

 

This is a developmental role intended to provide support to the Deputy Program Director by executing tasks as assigned, deputizing where required, and building project management skills as part of professional development.

 

More specifically, you will:
 

  • Be responsible for supporting the safe execution of construction activities at Davie’s Lévis shipyard.

  • Act as the focal point for assigned activities within Davie and its production subcontractors.

  • Support construction planning and production activities within Davie, from advanced planning through all phases to commissioning and final delivery.

  • Support the coordination of quality and accuracy control activities within Davie.

  • Support physical interface coordination between Helsinki Shipyard and Davie to ensure successful integration of hull and superstructures. 

  • Support the effective implementation of the program execution plan in collaboration with Davie, Helsinki Shipyard, and their subcontractors.

  • Assist in identifying risks and opportunities and recommend mitigation plans.

  • Support the monitoring and achievement of key performance indicators with the functions to ensure effective delivery, including monitoring of projects scope, schedule, cost performance, and milestones.

  • Assist the Deputy Program Director in leading and managing the project, ensuring best management practices and processes are deployed on the project by the departments.

  • Support input to regular reports for the client and internal status that monitor and clearly communicate project budget and schedule status, as well as forecasts.

  • Support the identifications of resource needs in Davie’s functional areas and subcontractors to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet project requirements.

  • Support audits to ensure project management outcomes are effectively being captured.

  • Support the PMO in ensuring all efforts in areas under its control are profitable and maintain positive cash flow.

  • Ensure the timely assessment of all change management processes, both internal and external, and ensure the required reports, documentation, and tracking are completed in accordance with the defined processes.

  • Support knowledge transfer plans and events, ensuring they are executed and recorded correctly.

  • Perform any other reasonable tasks to support the project as directed.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent technical/trade training.

  • Progressive experience in management, preferably within a project environment, including a minimum of three (3) years in a shipbuilding environment.

  • PMP certification acquired or in progress.

  • Familiarity with schedule control methodologies as contained in PMI (PMBOK) standards, with a sound understanding of project delivery phases, associated activities, and deliverables.

  • Knowledge of risk management principles and methodologies.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues to senior management.

  • High degree of teamwork and cooperation with other team members, along with the ability to meet fast-paced deadlines.
