Senior Power Trader

About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Power & Offsets in our commercial organization, the Senior Power Trader is one of the subject matter experts responsible for optimizing and collaborating across commodity trading desks to add knowledge, and expertise and seek opportunities to improve the overall corporate P&L. The successful candidate will add margin through trading activities and minimize Cenovus (CVE) power costs.

What you’ll do:

• Primary responsible for assisting with the plan, coordination and handling the Alberta and PJM power books; employing profitable trading strategies, incorporate responsible risk management planning tactics, and adhere to internal compliance programs

• Work collaboratively with Power team, gas traders and our operations team to effectively handle Cenovus’s exposure to power markets

• Develop and grow various strategies around asset optimization

• Represent the Power team with other business groups and share power market intelligence

• Meet agreed to P&L targets associated with handling the Power books

• Provide timely advice to the business units around asset optimization

Who you are:

• Bachelor’s Degree in business, engineering and/or another applicable field

• 10 or more years of direct trading experience preferred.

• Knowledge and experience in AESO & PJM markets

• Physical gas knowledge for Eastern or Western Canada, MidCon or Pac-North-West

• Strong analytical skills to implement trades

• Idea generation and assistance in the development of position management

• Strong market research and modeling proficiency

• Experienced knowledge of power and natural gas fundamentals and technical analysis
