Job Summary:

The Expert, Data Governance role ensures the integrity, security, and compliance of HR data across the organization. This position is responsible for developing and enforcing data governance policies, standards, and best practices to ensure consistent and accurate data management. The role collaborates closely with HR, IT, and legal teams to safeguard data privacy and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

 Data Governance Strategy & Compliance

·       Develop and implement data governance frameworks and policies to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of HR data

·       Ensure HR data practices comply with relevant data protection laws and regulations

·       Promote best practices for data entry, storage, and retrieval to ensure efficient data handling across HR systems

·       Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in data governance to enhance HR data practices

·       Review and analyze current HR data housing and management practices and processes, and identify and drive implementation of improvements.

 Collaboration & Alignment

·       Collaborate with HR tech services, IT, and other departments to align HR data governance initiatives with organizational goals and broader technology systems

·       Serve as a liaison between data users and technical teams to facilitate data integration and ensure alignment with business needs

Data Quality, Enablement & Education

·       Support the development and deliver training programs to educate employees on data governance policies and the importance of data quality

·       Support HR reporting and analytics by ensuring the availability of high-quality data for decision-making and work with the People Analytics team to understand areas that require additional attention from a data quality and/or governance perspective

Requirements:

Education / Certification / Experience

 ·       Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, Business, or a related field.

 ·       5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, with hands-on experience in HR data management.

 o   Proven knowledge of data governance frameworks, including data quality, data security, and compliance regulations such as GDPR, PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act), and other Canadian data privacy laws.

 o   Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP) or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/C) (Canada-focused) certification*

 o   Experience working with data governance tools*

 o   Strong understanding of data architecture, data privacy regulations, and experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, legal, HR) to ensure compliance and data integrity.

 o   Communicate effectively in English and in French (written & oral)*
