STATUS: 210-Days, Full-Time, Permanent

Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational independent school, serving nearly 780 students from junior preschool through to Grade 12. Purpose of Position

As a key member of the CFIS Senior and Pedagogical Leadership Teams, CFIS's Principal of Secondary School is responsible for the day-to-day organization and operation of the Secondary School (Grades 6 to 12). The Principal of Secondary School takes a leadership role in ensuring excellence in the delivery of instruction, provides a supportive and nurturing environment for students, fosters growth and professional development for faculty and staff and ensures that the mission, vision and values of CFIS are reflected in the operating philosophy and school culture. In addition, they are a key contributor to the school's strategic planning and vision and mission development.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Education required, Master's degree preferred or alternately Post Graduate studies towards a Master’s degree.

Previous Leadership Experience.

Knowledge of accreditation and compliance with International Baccalaureate , Round Square, UNESCO and Canadian Accredited Independent Schools preferred.

Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or Alberta Interim Teaching Certificate or be in the process of obtaining a Teaching Authority from a Canadian province.

Valid Alberta Leadership Certificate, or in the process of acquiring.

Fluently bilingual (French and English).

Valid Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Core Areas of Responsibility:

Leading Roles:

Leadership and management of CFIS's Secondary School, including student, faculty, staff and parent relations.

Lead, coach, manage and evaluate faculty and staff in the Secondary School Division.

Lead, coach, manage and evaluate Secondary School's Curriculum Leaders and Grade Level Coordinators.

Develop and manage the timetable, teaching assignments and room allocations.

Develop the school calendar in collaboration with the Head of School and other Principals and Directors.

Manage the day-to-day organization and operation of the Secondary School including meetings, assemblies, communications and special events.

Oversee the Secondary School's co-curricular program.

Ensure high-quality delivery of instruction and curriculum implementation.

Coordinate delivery of the Secondary School curriculum.

Implement strategic goals in the Secondary School.

Oversee professional development and funding approval for teachers within the Secondary School.

Review Teacher Professional Growth Plans and other Growth Plans with faculty and staff in the Secondary School.

Create, implement and monitor student learning Action Plans in collaboration with students, teachers and parents as well as other student support specialists.

Oversee the fiscal management of the Secondary School budget including professional development and school enhancements.

Management of health and safety in the Secondary School, including risk identification, and the implementation of CFIS health and safety policies and procedures.

Manage the processes for recruitment, hiring and retention of high-quality faculty, in conjunction with the other Principals and Curriculum Leaders.

Manage the administration and security of Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs).

Oversee the reporting of student progress.

Develop and update publications specific to the Secondary School.

Communicate effectively with parents in all areas of responsibility.

Leadership and management of the horizontal and vertical coordination, implementation and integration of the Secondary School's Academic Curriculum, including Alberta Education and UNESCO.

In collaboration with other Principals and Curriculum Leaders, maintain effective assessment practices.

In collaboration with the Head of School, ensure that CFIS's academic procedures are up to date.

Leadership and management of orientations for new Secondary School teachers.

Develop and maintain relations for the school with external agencies and individuals with whom interaction is required in order to fulfill the duties of this position such as Alberta Education, professional development providers and other school affiliates.

Oversee and manage the recruitment and selection of new students to the Secondary School.

Supporting Roles:

Support the Curriculum Leaders in the development and integration of curriculum.

Support the Head of School in developing goals for and meeting the requirements of Alberta Education such as the Notice of Intent, the Annual Education Results Report, and the Three-Year Education Plan.

Collaborate with and support the other Principals in developing school-wide professional development plans including AISI.

Attend meetings and collaborate with members of the Pedagogical Leadership Team and the Director Team in the development of the Senior School Program.

Support the Head of School in the advancement of the School's mission.

The ideal candidate should possess excellent written and oral communication skills. They must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members. Building positive relationships through effective communication strategies is essential to fostering an open and collaborative culture within the school community. This includes encouraging feedback, input, and participation from all members.

Leadership & Management:

Strong leadership skills, including the ability to inspire, motivate, and manage a team of professionals, and manage resources effectively, including budgets, personnel, technology and facilities.

Curriculum Development:

The Principal must be skilled in designing, developing, and implementing curricula that align with the school's educational objectives and meet the needs of a diverse student population.

Student Engagement:

The Principal must possess the skills to create a positive and engaging learning

environment that fosters student success, well-being, and growth.

Collaborative Skills:

The Principal must be a skilled collaborator, able to work effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and other community members to achieve the school's objectives.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

A commitment to ongoing learning and growth, and a willingness to take risks, experiment, and innovate by identifying and implementing best practices in education, curriculum design, assessment, and technology integration to enhance student learning. and engagement.
