SUMMER WELLNESS CAMP LEAD- SUMMER POSITION

Full-Time - 35 Hours per week position (1.0 FTE based on Funding)

July 2 - August 2, 2024; Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board invites qualified applicants for a full-time (35 hours/week) Summer Wellness Lead Camp Counsellor position with duties to commence July 2, 2024-August 2, 2024. The Summer Wellness Camp Lead will be responsible for the planning, design and implementation of a variety of positive daytime recreational “camp” and leadership experiences for school aged children and youth. The goal of the Summer Wellness Camp is to support the mental health and wellbeing of children and youth. Campers will work on self-esteem, confidence building and positive peer interactions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be creative, reliable, responsible and comfortable working within a neighbourhood centre, from a strength-based perspective.

Committed to anti-oppressive values of justice, equity, respect of the beliefs and traditions of others.

Understanding of Indigenous practices and impact of colonization

Committed to including the voice of children/youth and families as part of our service planning and service delivery.

The Wellness Camp Lead manages all aspects of the camp location.

Oversees operations of the Wellness Camp including programs and activities planned by camp staff.

Manages and motivates a team of staff and co-op placement student/students.

Plans, organizes, and teaches activities and games to a group of campers.

Ensures the safety and supervision of campers and staff.

Communicates regularly with Social Work camp coordinator.

Completes administrative paperwork including attendance, injury incident reports and summary reports of overall camp experience including insight into future planning.

Qualifications and Experience:

Must be enrolled in post-secondary education

Must have a vehicle to transport equipment to/from camp daily.

Must have G driver’s license.

Demonstrated leadership skills

Ability to build constructive relationships with children and youth in groups and on an individual basis

Ability to work as part of a team, and manage Junior Camp Counsellors.

Effective communication skills.

Demonstrate confidence leading activities and groups.

Knowledge of issues that affect children and youth

Knowledge of various aspects of child development and outdoor education

Knowledge of child protection act

Knowledge of anti-discriminatory practice

Multilingualism is an asset

Excellent communication skills

All successful candidates will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) before starting their first shift.
