Description
The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Each member of Bluewater Health is called to embrace patient and family-centred care in its fullest form. This includes using techniques and strategies to communicate “I care and I respect you,” providing information in a way patients and families can understand, listening to patients and families to learn what an exemplary healthcare experience means to them, and seeking their perspective throughout their stay and during improvement initiatives.
-Minimum of five years’ work experience in an Indigenous health and or social service organization, hospital or community-based case management, health promotion or social work required
-Experience working with First Nations’ communities required
-Management experience preferred
-University degree Required
-Master’s Degree with a health-related focus preferred
-Member in good standing with current registration with a regulated health professional college, preferred
-Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
-Preference given to an Indigenous person from a local Indigenous community.
-Knowledge of local and regional Indigenous culture, language, customs and traditions with demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous Elders, Healers and Knowledge Keepers. -Knowledge and understanding of the history of colonization and its intergenerational affects and the complexities of Indigenous health care. -Well developed interpersonal and relationship management skills, supported by sound critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict resolution.
-Experience designing and facilitating interactive educational workshops and presentations.
-Proficiency using the MS Office Suite of products, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel required.
The Indigenous Relations and Navigation Manager facilitates and promotes the efforts and directions required to foster an environment of cultural safety for all Indigenous patients, caregivers, and their families throughout Bluewater Health and the broader health community. The Manager supports the development of culturally appropriate care practices, processes and policies for the provision of high-quality services and care. This role monitors and leads change improvements to support positive patient and family care experiences for Indigenous people, further aligning this work with the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions’ Calls to Action. The Manager works closely with Indigenous stakeholders and BWH leadership and the Equity Inclusion Diversity and Indigeneity Coalition to set out and implement the foundational principles and practices of culturally safety and anti-racism efforts within all departments of Bluewater Hospital. This role under the direction of the Chief Human Resources leads BWH’s Indigenous Navigation team and is accountable to and located within Bluewater Hospital, however, will work collaboratively with Indigenous Leaders in the region including SL OHT Indigenous Community Advisory Council, the London District Chiefs Council and the Indigenous Health Planning Committee.
-Through consultation with the patient/client and the health care team, individualize a patient centered care plan while promoting cultural appropriateness and safety.
-In alignment with BWH’s Privacy policies and Decision Support practices, maintain data collection for the purpose of reporting and improving quality of care and services.
-Assist with marketing and promotion strategies to advance cultural safety practices, TRC Calls to action and Indigenous Navigation Services within BWH.
-Support the planning of Indigenous activities; community newsletters, commemorative events, and education classes. -Through consultation and feedback from Indigenous partners/ stakeholders, hospital leaders and community agencies develop and provide education on various Indigenous health topics. -As Indigenous lead, support initiatives to improve equitable health care experiences led by the -Equity, Diversity Inclusivity and Indigeneity (EDII) committee. This involves leading the Indigeneity work as set out in the EDII work plan.
-Lead and support the Indigenous Navigation Team’s development and ensuring support for the team’s wellbeing and cultural safety.
-Advance navigation and traditional healing services through quality improvement measures with continued focus on improving the Indigenous health care experience.
