The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Nursing is a self-regulated profession governed through the College. A nurse is responsible for practicing in accordance with the standards of the profession, and for keeping current and competent throughout his/her nursing career (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2009).

Qualifications:

• Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required
• BCLS required
• BScN or equivalent preferred
• Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention course within the last two years preferred
• Completion of LEAN training within the last year preferred
• Completion of a Leadership/Management course preferred
• Completion of an Addictions/Withdrawal Management course preferred

Skill, Ability and Experience:

• A minimum of three to five (3-5) years clinical experience in Mental Health preferred
• Recent experience as a unit leader or other leadership experience required
• Proven leadership skills as evident through involvement and participation in nursing committees and initiatives required
• Ability to apply critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and prioritization skills to nursing duties required
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills required
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships required
• Demonstrated customer service excellence preferred
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships preferred
• Demonstrated ability to fulfil role within Attendance Support Program parameters required
• Proficient with electronic documentation and Microsoft Office required
• Experience with Stay Track/Oculys preferred
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act required
• Ability to work effectively with staff of community agencies required
• Ability to demonstrate effective role modeling and communications skills used to assist patients in identifying problems and modifying behaviours required
• Demonstrates ability to access and refer clients to appropriate service (ie.: ACT, CMHA, Sarnia Lambton Centre for Children and Youth, CAS, Sarnia Police, Family Counselling Centre) required
• Knowledge of Resident assessment instrument - Mental Health preferred
• Highly developed crisis assessment and intervention skills preferred
• French Language Proficiency preferred

Principal Duties:

• Reports to the Director, Mental Health and Addiction Services and works closely with Program Managers to provide the direction and leadership required to support the programs’ clinical practice needs
• Facilities and champions an inter-professional approach to problem solving and decision making by the patient care team around care models and nursing practice
• Facilitates development of inter-professional practice initiatives
• Works collaboratively with clinical program leadership teams, clinical process support and Knowledge Management to facilitate clinical change processes and leadership development initiatives
• Works with members of the Program to focus on achieving the hospital strategic directions and patient satisfaction goals
• In partnership with the Program Manager, works to develop annual objectives and program priorities focusing on professional practice and collaborating with the Manager who focuses on operations
• Collaborates with professional practice team to ensure Evidence Based Best Practices are developed and implemented
• Accountable for communicating benchmarks (i.e. scope of practice parameters) for professional specific standards or practice
• Implements consultation to other leaders for professional specific issues and development of practice based policies
• Communicates professions’ scope of practice and assists with resolution on scope of practice issues
• Promotes interdisciplinary patient care across the organization
• Identifies and develops plans for the implementation of best practice care delivery models that support the clinical programs’ goals and objectives
• Works collaboratively with Human Resources for recruitment, retention and staff development activities
• Assures that budgetary guidelines are met by monitoring monthly expenses and revenues; responsible for productivity improvements and cost efficiencies
