Your Opportunity
BDO Canada’s Business Services & Outsourcing (BSO) team is seeking a Senior Manager to join the Financial Reporting & Insights (FR&I) practice in our Calgary office. In this role, you will lead the delivery of year-end accounting and tax services for complex private group structures across high-growth sectors such as real estate, automotive, oil and gas services, and private equity/family offices.
You will lead client engagements for complex private groups, manage key relationships in collaboration with Partners, and provide technical oversight across accounting and tax deliverables. You’ll also take an active role in coaching team members and contributing to the strategic growth of our national BSO practice.
The successful candidate will own the following responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and review of year-end working paper files, financial statement compilations (Notice to Reader), and related corporate, personal, and trust tax filings.
- Oversee and guide the work of engagement teams on accounting and tax files for complex private entities, including clients with multi-company group structures, intercompany relationships, and family trust arrangements.
- Act as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of clients, ensuring exceptional service delivery, responsiveness, and alignment with their operating needs and compliance deadlines.
- Provide strong technical oversight on engagements, managing workflow, quality control processes, and compliance with firm documentation standards.
- Prioritize and assign projects based on client timelines, budgets, and team capacity.
- Mentor, coach, and provide timely feedback to staff across levels; support talent development and team learning.
- Collaborate with Partners on business development initiatives and client file planning, contributing to the continued growth of the practice.
- Support the adoption of cloud-based accounting tools and firm technology platforms to improve engagement efficiency and client service.

You experience and education
- You are a designated CPA (CA, CGA, or CMA) in good standing.
- You have at least 5 years of experience in public accounting, with growing responsibility for complex private company files.
- You’re confident in reviewing personal, corporate, and trust tax returns, especially within owner-managed and multi-entity structures.
- You bring working knowledge of group reorganizations, intercompany transactions, and family trusts.
- You’ve supported clients across sectors such as real estate, construction, automotive, oil & gas services, or private equity/family offices.
- You’re skilled with CaseWare, QuickBooks, Sage, and Excel, and may have experience with cloud accounting platforms.
- You have strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills, and take pride in mentoring others and managing multiple priorities.
