The Role:
As a Senior Resource Technologist, you will provide technical expertise in Forest Revenue by reviewing complex applications, interpreting legislation, and supporting well informed natural resource decisions. Your work helps protect provincial revenue and contributes to the effective management of forestry activities in the region. This job offers a mix of office and field time, collaboration with a supportive and experienced team, and the chance to spend time out in Merritt’s beautiful landscape.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a natural resource field and one (1) year of related experience; OR,
  • Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource field and two (2) years of related experience; OR,
  • Diploma in a natural resource field and three (3) years related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or related designation with Forest Professionals BC. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.

Related Experience:

  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions in natural resource management.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
  • Meets safety standards of WorkSafeBC.
  • Conduct field work, which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Merritt.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Merritt.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
