Description
The Team
Our team, the Office of the Chief Veterinarian - Dairy Program, is a small, collaborative group committed to supporting safe and sustainable dairy production across BC. We value diversity and inclusion, bringing together expertise in areas like animal welfare, livestock management, and regulatory compliance to serve producers and protect public health. As part of this established team, you’ll work closely with the Lead Dairy Inspector and other specialists in a respectful, supportive environment where different perspectives are welcomed and flexibility helps us meet the needs of both industry and community.
The Role
As a Dairy Inspector, you’ll work directly with dairy producers across BC to make sure farms meet the requirements of the Milk Industry Standards Regulation. This includes conducting on-farm inspections, providing practical guidance to correct issues, and supporting producers through sometimes complex situations. The role combines technical knowledge with strong communication and problem-solving skills, and we value diverse perspectives and approaches to help build trust and positive relationships with producers while ensuring safe, high-quality milk for communities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Diploma in agriculture sciences, or equivalent, with experience in the dairy industry with an emphasis on farm-level production, OR diploma in Law or equivalent, with operational experience in a regulatory compliance program.
- Operational experience in mediating solutions, regulatory enforcement or auditing, with preference given to either the Milk Industry Act, the National Dairy Code, or the Dairy Farmer’s of Canada ProAction.
- Valid BC Drivers license.
Proviso
- Meet the safety standards of WorkSafe BC.
- Conduct fieldwork, which includes travel to remote areas across the province by vehicle, overnight or extended stay, and working in all weather conditions.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
