Job Summary

The Team
Provincial Centralized Screening provides province-wide child protection screening services in a fast paced, 24-7, rotating shift work environment. There are multiple teams of dedicated social services workers including Directors of Operations, Team Leaders, Child Protection Workers, Support Workers and Social Program Officer Assistants. The services provided by Provincial Centralized Screening have a direct impact on the well-being of children, youth and families throughout British Columbia.

The Role
This is a challenging and meaningful role for a fully qualified child protection worker with C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Service Act. This is a great opportunity for experienced workers who enjoy a fast-paced shift work environment and want to make a difference in the lives of children, youth and families throughout British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience


Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

2. Expanded Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • All education credentials will be subject to verification and validation as per ministry process.
  • Applicants who re-apply within 6 months of a previous unsuccessful CPW final assessment (reference check) may not be eligible for further consideration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) or be immediately eligible to obtain C6 delegation.

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:

  • Applicants with preferred education credentials
  • Minimum of two (2) years of current experience working as a C6-delegated Child Protection Worker.
  • Completion of a Child Welfare Specialization and a practicum in a child welfare setting from an accredited BC university.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous with the required combination of education and experience.

WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS:

  • Flexible work options are available and will follow divisional/program area directives; this position may be able to telework with an approved telework agreement.
  • 1 out of every 4 shifts must be worked in-office.
  • Willingness to work with families facing challenges which may involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children in crisis.

About this Position:
There are multiple full time permanent and temporary positions available with Provincial Centralized Screening.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent and temporary vacancies
Flexible work options: this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week as per an approved Telework Agreement.
This position can be based at any location listed above. NOTE: Provincial Centralized Screening is a hybrid work setting; however, staff must be able to work in-office on immediate notice if requested under the requirements of the Business Continuity Plan or when operationally required.
This position requires shift work. The shift patterns apply to a 24/7 schedule which includes daytime, evening and weekend shifts. As per the relevant collective agreement provisions on paid holidays and dependent on schedules, staff will earn hours toward additional leave. In addition, there may be opportunities for overtime, or alternatively, compensatory time off.
