Job Summary

The Team
At Port Hardy Provincial Court, we are a small, collaborative team responsible for managing Provincial Court matters for the remote areas on the North end of Vancouver Island. The team of consists of 4 staff, including Court/Registry Clerks, a Registry Clerk and a Registry Administrator/Justice of the Peace, who receive training in all Provincial Court program areas. This remote location fosters deep connections with the judiciary and other justice partners to ensure the justice system remains accessible to the North Island communities it serves. Teamwork and diversity is highly valued and staff are provided with the support needed to excel in their careers with Court Services.

Port Hardy is the gateway to the wilderness of the northern end of Vancouver Island and provides unique access to outdoor adventures, including world-class fishing and diving as well as legendary hikes along the North Coast Trail. Rugged coastlines, ancient forests, and rich Indigenous heritage make this location the hidden gem of Vancouver Island.

The Role
As a Court / Registry Clerk, you will play an important role in supporting fair and accessible justice by providing both in-court and administrative services. You will assist in the registry, prepare and manage court documents, record proceedings, handle exhibits, and work closely with judges, lawyers, justice partners, and the public. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • 1 year of experience working in an office environment; OR
  • A combination of 1 year of customer service, clerical duties, office experience and education.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, standard computer applications and software programs (e.g., Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience in Court Programs and Applications (JUSTIN, CEIS, ARC, CTAS, CCD).
  • Experience as a court clerk and/or registry clerk.
  • 1 year of previous work experience in a court or legal environment.
