The Team
The Burns Lake Court Registry is a small, established team that works closely with the Smithers Law Court team, combining in-person and virtual collaboration. You’ll join a close-knit group that includes this part time clerk position and one full-time Court Administrator in Burns Lake as well as the Smithers team that includes clerks, registry technicians, one supervisor and the manager. You’ll also interact with a wide range of justice partners such as the Judiciary, Sheriffs, RCMP, and Community Corrections. The Role
As a Court Clerk, you will provide critical administrative support to the Burns Lake Provincial Court as well as other provincial courts, ensuring the smooth operation of court processes. Your responsibilities will include preparing courtrooms and specialized equipment for hearings, managing exhibits, maintaining accurate court files, and interpreting and distributing court documents. You will also operate computerized case tracking systems and deliver exceptional service to the public and court users. This dynamic and engaging role supports access to justice and makes a meaningful impact on the justice system, with occasional overtime or travel required to support circuit court locations.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum of two years’ administrative support or customer service experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of one-year previous work experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, and working with standard computer applications and software programs (e.g., Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Keyboard speed of 40 words per minute.
- Valid B.C. drivers’ licence.
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Experience in court programs and applications (e.g., JUSTIN, CEIS, ARC, CTAS, CCD).
- Experience as a Court Clerk and/or Registry Clerk.
- One year of previous work experience in a legal environment.
Provisos:
- May be required to work flexible hours, including varied shifts and overtime on short notice.
- May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations. Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others.

About this Position:
This position is part time (0.5 FTE, 35 hours biweekly)
This position has full time on-site requirements.

Burns Lake is located close to the middle of the province, with 4,828 km of lake shoreline. The region is home to some of the province's largest freshwater lakes, activities like fishing and boating are very popular, as well as hiking, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Located near Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, Burns Lake hosts the province's second-largest Aboriginal Day event annually.
