Job Summary


The Team
Join the Court Administration team at Fort St John Law Court, a diverse, outgoing and energetic group. This team of ten supports both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court, ensuring efficient and impartial access to legal services for all citizens. With a strong culture of integrity and compassion, members work alongside judges, administrators, sheriffs, and the public, learning and supporting one another to deliver service excellence.

The Role
As a Court Clerk/Registry Clerk, you will play a key role in ensuring that court orders and documentation are accurately recorded and accessible to support the judicial process both in Court and in the Registry. Your work directly impacts access to justice, helping to uphold fairness and transparency for all citizens. This opportunity allows you to be part of a long-standing tradition of service excellence, working in one of BC’s most iconic historical buildings alongside a supportive, close-knit team dedicated to justice.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of two years’ administrative support or customer service experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of one-year previous work experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, and working with standard computer applications and software programs (e.g., Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Keyboard speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. drivers’ licence.

Preference may be given to those with:

  • Experience in court programs and applications (e.g., JUSTIN, CEIS, ARC, CTAS, CCD).
  • Experience as a Court Clerk and/or Registry Clerk.
  • One year of previous work experience in a legal environment.

Provisos:

  • May be required to work flexible hours, including varied shifts and overtime on short notice.
  • May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations. Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others.
  • Successful completion of enhanced security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).

About this Position:
This position is based in Fort St John.
This is an “as and when required” position and a minimum number of hours of work is not guaranteed. The appointment is until March 31, 2027. There is a possibility that it may be extended.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
