Job Summary

The Employment and Labour Market Services Division supports all British Columbians in achieving sustainable employment. To help those in need find and maintain employment, the division works with contracted service providers to provide job search resources, employment planning, skills assessment, training, work experience and more.

The Employability Specialist provides client-centred, holistic employment planning services to British Columbians receiving income and disability assistance. The Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive needs assessments and making decisions about employment obligations and accountabilities as a condition of eligibility for BC Employment and Assistance (BCEA or BC Employment and Assistance for People with Disabilities (BCEA_PWD). The role works collaboratively with clients to develop customized Employability Plans, drawing from a broad range of community supports and employment services, to support increased levels of employment readiness and labour market attachment. The Specialist develops trust-based relationships and provides strength-based coaching to motivate client commitment and progress towards increased employability, while also establishing and monitoring accountabilities that align with client readiness.

Job Requirements:

• Post-Secondary Certificate, Degree or Diploma in a related field (EG: career or employment development, human services, health, social services, etc.), and 1 year of *related experience; OR
• Secondary school completion or equivalent and 5 years of *related experience; OR
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

*Related experience must include the following:
• Experience working with people who may be experiencing homelessness and suffering from trauma, mental illness and/or addiction issues.
• Experience providing direct client service (in-person or virtual).
• Experience coaching people towards goals.
• Experience working with community organizations and/or with multiple service providers.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
• Experience in employment counselling / job coaching.
• Experience using the ICM (Integrated Case Management) System.

Provisos
• May require the use of de-escalation techniques to manage some situations.
• Periodic travel to Victoria may be required in order to meet with clients and attend meetings.

About this Position:
Currently there are three (3) permanent positions available.
This position can be based out of any of the locations listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
