The Team
South Coast Fish and Aquatic Ecosystems is looking for an enthusiastic biologist to join our team! Aquatic ecosystems in the South Coast region are culturally important to First Nations, have global significance, and support both critically endangered species as well as substantial industrial and economic activity.
The Role
This role involves navigating complex jurisdictions and overlapping values while contributing to knowledge and recovery of unique species including Steelhead, White Sturgeon, and Oregon Spotted Frog. You will work collaboratively with First Nations and local partners to achieve positive results for fish, aquatic wildlife and their ecosystems in the South Coast.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
• Master’s degree in biological sciences or a related field and 2 years of related experience, or
• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related field and 3 years of related experience.
• Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
• Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of employment.
Note: Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the registration process with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Related experience must include:
• Experience in conducting environmental surveys and assessments.
• Experience managing complex and sensitive natural resource management issues/projects.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
• Experience in fisheries and/or aquatic wildlife management, aquatic species-at-risk conservation, and aquatic ecosystem-based planning.
• Experience conducting field sampling, data analysis, recovery planning, and reporting for South Coast species.
• Experience in reviewing permits, authorizations or other proposals for development.
• Experience applying expertise, natural resource legislation, policy and guidance to provide technical recommendations.
• Experience collaborating and/or consulting with First Nations, local governments, external consultants and the natural resource industry on resource management issues.
• Experience in statistical analyses and/or GIS analysis and/or ecological modelling.
Willingness Statements:
• Willing and able to meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
• Willing and able to operate of a variety of equipment.
• Willing and able to conduct field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Willing and able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
