Job Summary

The Team
Join the Cyber Security and Digital Trust team as one of four Directors leading the BC Government’s Cyber Security Leadership group-an experienced and collaborative team committed to protecting public systems and services. You’ll manage a team of 30 and work closely with Ministry Security Officers, fellow Directors, and OCIO leadership to ensure strong cyber controls and rapid threat response. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree, diploma, certification in computer science or other related technical field, or equivalent in education and experience.
  • At least five (5) years’ of progressive cybersecurity and leadership experience including:
    • Identifying and assessing IT risks, current threats, and security incident response and management.
    • Developing enterprise security frameworks
    • Familiarity with AI-enhanced tools for threat intelligence, SOC operations, and incident response Experience with security technology (e.g., Anti-DDoS, firewalls, EDR, CNAPP, Zero Trust, etc.), Security Information and Event Management, Scanning, and Public Key Infrastructure management.
    • Experience with tools that use AI for log analysis, alert triage, and false-positive reduction (e.g., Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel).
    • Experience with cloud security solutions from AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
    • Proven expertise in threat intelligence, incident response, and investigations.
    • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, standards, security technologies, and operational best practices.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in progressively complex technology-enabled environments (e.g., in a service environment with multiple client groups).
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience leading significant IT project implementations.
  • Three (3) years’ experience managing professional staff, project teams, budgets and cross-functional initiatives.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Professional security designation such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
  • Security Operations experience improving organizations security controls.

About this Position:
This position is based in Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 3 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
