Underwriting Manager - P&C - Linx Underwriting Solutions

 

Become a member of an energetic and top-performing team, playing a key role in developing inventive and impactful solutions alongside Linx Underwriting Solutions. This hybrid role is based in Toronto, with approximately 50% of your time spent working from the office. You’ll play a key part in empowering results for our clients through strategic underwriting leadership and collaboration.

What the day will look like

 

  • Lead a team of underwriters, providing oversight of daily operations, ensuring technical proficiency, mentorship, and fostering professional relationships.
  • Manage underwriting portfolios encompassing package, property, casualty, and EBI lines.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with carriers, facilitating file referrals and recommending appropriate courses of action.
  • Support brokers with creative solutions designed to uphold book profitability.
  • Exercise independent judgment in the selection and acceptance of individual risks.
  • Negotiate and finalize terms, conditions, and premiums for new and renewal accounts within the assigned portfolio and authority limits.
  • Monitor operational performance to ensure both efficiency and profitability, whilst delivering exceptional service.
  • Maintain effective underwriting methodologies and techniques to guarantee integrity and cost-efficiency.
  • Drive production to secure new business opportunities and retain existing accounts, aligning with Company X’s strategic objectives and underwriting guidelines.
  • Stay informed regarding quote logs, claims data, and market developments.
  • Proactively identify, forecast, and develop future business opportunities.
  • Review the work of underwriters and underwriting assistants to maintain quality standards and accuracy in rating bases or formulas.
  • Pursue self-development initiatives to expand professional knowledge.
  • Administer and analyze claims databases.
  • Manage relationships with authorized insurers.
  • Remain current with marketplace trends and competitor activities.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

 

  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience in commercial property and casualty underwriting, with a strong focus on small to midmarket sectors across diverse industries.
  • A post-secondary education—college diploma or university degree—is required.
  • CIP designation is a valuable asset.
  • Prior experience within an MGA or in insurance management is preferred.
  • Proven expertise in interpreting and applying policy wordings.
  • Sharp analytical and mathematical skills, paired with sound decision-making and confident negotiation abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that foster collaboration and trust.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Lotus Notes.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a high level of motivation and professionalism.
