Description
The Anglophone North School District (ASDN) is seeking reliable, safety-conscious individuals to join our team as Casual School Bus Drivers in the Belledune, Dalhousie, and Campbellton areas. This is an on-call position providing coverage for regular drivers who are absent due to illness, vacation, or other leave. Casual drivers play a vital role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school.
Role Responsibilities
- Safely operate a heavy motor vehicle to transport students to and from school and school-related activities.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of a school bus, including basic knowledge of mechanical functions and maintaining the vehicle in sound working condition.
- Upon successful training, applicants will be added to the replacement driver list and may be called to work on an as-needed basis.
- School bus drivers typically work a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon (Monday-Friday). Drivers do not work weekends, statutory holidays, summer break, Christmas break, March break, or snow days. Extra hours may be available for field trips, after-school events, weekend tournaments, etc.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and good medical history (e.g., no heart condition).
- Strong commitment to safety, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Training & Licensing Requirements
Selected candidates must complete a five‑day mandatory District training course in Dalhousie, NB. Training dates are tentatively scheduled March 16-20, 2026 if we have enough qualified candidates to put on a course.
To operate a school bus, a Class 2BE driver's license is required. If you do not currently hold this license, all necessary training will be provided. The licensing process includes:
- Completing a five-day training course.
- Obtaining a clean criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, driver's abstract, and passing a vision test.
- Passing both a written test and a road test.
- After obtaining a Class 2BE license, candidates receive paid behind‑the‑wheel training and reimbursement for most licensing costs.
Employment with Anglophone North offers:
- Typically assigned the same model of bus (automatic transmission).
- Potential to park the bus at your home, or a nearby depot.
- A workday consists of a morning shift and an afternoon shift.
