Description
The Anglophone North School District (ASDN) is seeking reliable, safety-conscious individuals to join our team as Casual School Bus Drivers. This on-call role provides coverage for regular drivers who are absent due to illness, vacation, or other leave. Casual drivers play a vital role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes in a courteous and timely manner
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Maintain student safety and order on the bus
- Communicate effectively with school staff, students, and parents as required
- Comply with all applicable traffic laws and ASDN policies
Drivers typically work a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. There is no work on weekends, statutory holidays, summer break, Christmas break, March break, or snow days. Additional hours may be available for field trips, after-school events, or weekend tournaments.
Qualifications
- Valid New Brunswick Class 2 driver's license with an “Endorsement B” (school bus)
- Clean Driver's Abstract and Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check)
- Completion of an approved School Bus Driver Training Program (or willingness to complete it)
- Ability to follow schedules and adhere to safety procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Availability on short notice
- Physically able to perform the duties required
Training & Licensing Requirements
Selected candidates must complete a five-day district training course, tentatively scheduled for August 2025 (exact dates to be confirmed).
If you do not currently hold a Class 2BE driver's license, ASDN will provide all necessary training to help you obtain it. This includes:
- A five-day in-class training course
- Required screenings: criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, driver's abstract, and vision test
- Assistance in preparing for and completing both written and road tests
- Behind-the-wheel training
