Job DescriptionWould you like to put your casting expertise to work across multiple locations and turn technical challenges into tangible improvements? At Alcoa, you will contribute to operational stability, technology deployment, and process improvement. This opportunity will allow you to combine hands-on expertise, technical leadership, and collaboration with a global network of specialists.
About the RoleReporting to the Casting Excellence Director, you will provide technical expertise and process leadership to casthouses, primarily in Quebec. You will support teams in resolving operational issues, setting priorities, and delivering improvement and technology deployment projects. You will also collaborate with customers, Customer Technical Support, and commercial teams to facilitate new product qualification and the transfer of best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Support casting operations by providing hands-on expertise to resolve technical issues, optimize processes, and improve operational reliability, consistency, and stability.
- Drive performance improvements related to productivity, process capability, quality, production throughput, and costs, while contributing to annual and long-term planning and the alignment of priorities and resources.
- Lead or coordinate projects and technology deployments through direct and indirect influence to deliver agreed outcomes across locations and the global network.
- Ensure process validation and operational readiness for new equipment and facility modifications, and develop supporting business cases for investments in collaboration with relevant teams.
- Facilitate new product qualification by coordinating the technical requirements of operations, customers, Customer Technical Support, and commercial teams.
- Transfer proven technologies and practices across locations, particularly in Lean manufacturing and reliability, by benchmarking performance and clearly communicating technical information to diverse stakeholders.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering and at least 10 years of relevant experience in casthouse operations, casting technologies, or process engineering, enabling you to provide technical expertise tailored to site-specific challenges.
- In-depth knowledge of casting processes and technologies. Direct experience with Vertical Direct Chill (VDC) casting of billets or slabs is highly desirable. Experience in process optimization, operational problem-solving, and technology deployment in a production environment is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated experience in operational improvement, with initiatives that have contributed to productivity, process capability, quality, production throughput, cost control, or operational stability.
- Ability to lead projects and influence stakeholders across individual locations and the global network. Experience in Lean manufacturing, equipment reliability, commissioning, operational readiness, investment business cases, and the transfer of best practices is particularly valued.
- Fluency in French and English, with strong communication skills. English proficiency is required due to the nature of the role and regular interaction with stakeholders who do not speak French in a global environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards in a complex process environment, with the ability to integrate these considerations into technical support and improvement initiatives.
