The Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) is a bright modern, family centered facility that is a cornerstone for quality inpatient and ambulatory clinical care and research for the children of Calgary and southern Alberta. Reporting to the Allied Health Patient Care Manager (PCM), you, along with 3 other Unit Managers, will share direct responsibility for the site-wide allied health disciplines as well as Allied Health clinical program areas. We are looking for an energetic, engaged leader who enjoys being a part of a large team, thrives on learning new things and working collaboratively to tackle diverse opportunities and challenges. As a Unit Manager (UM), you will work collaboratively with a diverse group of site leaders and physicians to support your team’s ability to deliver patient and family services that are high quality, accessible, and evidence based. Your day-to-day responsibilities include employee recruitment and supervision (team of approximately 85), coaching and performance management, budgetary oversight, and facilitating the achievement of strategic goals within the portfolio, ACH and the organization. The successful UM will have a demonstrated passion for continuous improvement and innovation, be able to function well in a team environment, be highly motivated to work as an integral part of a committed leadership team. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be an advocate for patient engagement, model patient and family-centered care, be a great team player and be a leader for change to meet our growing and diverse pediatric population needs.

The Unit Manager is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions on people and equipment resources and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of the Child Health Portfolio. This position directly reports to the Manager, Patient Care and works closely with Physician and Allied Health in scope and out of scope leadership. The unit manager will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Self-direction, decision making and critical thinking. Initiation, planning, implementation and evaluation of change. Coaching and mentorship to inspire and build competency in others. Organization, ability to work under pressure and manage multiple competing priorities. Effective written and verbal communication. Collaboration with stakeholders and the multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve common goals. Promotion of patient and family centered care, patient and staff safety and quality care. Program and Service Delivery quality improvement. Support for the integration of clinical and research.

Minimum of five years of relevant progressive clinical experience. Three years of progressive leadership or management experience. Proven leadership and organizational skills. Demonstrated effective collaboration with physicians, discipline leaders and other program leadership. Excellent communication and facilitation skills in a multidisciplinary team environment. Self-directed and highly motivated. Creative and adaptable. Ability to function effectively in dynamic situations. Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution, change leadership, and coaching for performance. Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with staff, physicians and program leadership. Ability to complete qualitative and quantitative analysis. Computer skills.

As Required.

Completion of or working toward an advanced level degree. Ambulatory Care Experience an asset. Pediatric Experience an asset.
