Description
This position is responsible and accountable for providing direction, team leadership, and organization over the operational activities of the L& D/Antepartum/Obstetrical OR/PARR units in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The incumbent is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of the L&D/Antepartum/Obstetrical OR/PARR units and the Women’s Health Portfolio as a whole. This position participates in budget planning, implementing and maintaining standards of practice, hiring, supervising and evaluating professional and support staff, and implementing changes to structure, processes and procedures in order to achieve improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality of care and resource utilization. There is an expectation of participation on Site based and Zonal obstetrical management committees for management, quality assurance/improvement (MOREOb), education and resource management.

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or health related profession required. Current registration in good standing with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or professional College required. Minimum 3 years in a management or clinical leadership role ideally in a health care organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity required.
A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills which include a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve operational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a multi-disciplinary team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government committees and other partners.
3 years’ experience with demonstrated clinical competence and knowledge of perinatal nursing, specifically L & D and Antepartum skills preferred.
