The Unit Clerk is responsible for patient and family care on the Family Medicine Units as directed by the Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses in accordance with Leduc Community Hospital and AHS policy and procedures. Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk is responsible for maintaining the inventory of supplies and equipment, booking tests, and performing clerical, receptionist and staffing liaison duties for the nursing unit. The Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families, and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line, supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the program. This position is a major asset to the smooth and efficient operation of the nursing unit.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Previous hospital experience required. Must have demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail with a high level of accuracy. Demonstrated professionalism and customer skills. Able to recognize and maintain confidential information. Have proven interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills, time management, as well as the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated and able to set priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment and cope with frequent interruptions and noise/distractions. Medical terminology required. Must be computer literate. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to successful liaison with Edmonton Zone Staffing Service is required.
