Description
Reporting to the Relief Team Lead, the Unit Clerk - Medicine Float Pool plays a key role in helping to foster an integrated team approach on the units by facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients, and families. In addition, this role will co-ordinate daily activities during the shift in accordance with the workload, setting priorities and ensuring the completion of assigned tasks. The RAH Medicine Relief Team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital provides relief (float) staff to 13 medicine units providing care for General Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pulmonary, Nephrology, GI and Hematology patients.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Experience in a hospital/patient related setting. Computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite. Well-developed interpersonal skills with ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to prioritize work/multi-task and effectively cope with frequent interruptions, noise and other distractions. Must be able to display professionalism and respect at all times. This Position Requires the ability to wear a N95. Must be able to work in a Physically demanding environment, involving constant walking, bending and heavy lifting
Practicum experience in an acute care inpatient unit is preferred. CPR Level C HCP Heart and Stroke Standards current within a year.
