As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Recent experience (within 2-3 years) working as a Unit Clerk in an acute care hospital setting. Experience supporting Adult Critical Care/CCU. Proficiency with Connect Care (Epic). Familiarity with medical terminology specific to critical care and cardiology. Experience coordinating diagnostic tests, procedures, and interdepartmental communication. Strong working knowledge of AHS policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards. Experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity, multidisciplinary environment. Proven ability to prioritize competing demands and manage frequent interruptions. Strong communication skills when interacting with physicians, nurses, allied health, patients, and families in stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail under pressure. Experience with bed management, patient flow, and admissions/discharges in critical care.

Ability to recognize and escalate urgent or stat orders appropriately as directed by charge nurse. Commitment to patient-centered care and professionalism in sensitive environments. Demonstrated resilience and ability to work effectively in emotionally intense and high-stress environments. Strong organizational and time-management skills with a focus on efficiency and accuracy. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
