With the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital now open, we are excited to be expanding services within urology, orthopedics, ENT, general surgery, gynecology and ophthalmology, with the addition of bariatric and oncoplastics to support Grande Prairie Cancer Centre. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Unit Clerk or Medical Office Assistant certification. Solid working knowledge of medical terminology. Preference in hiring will be given to applicants with Unit Clerk experience working in an OR within the last 3 years followed by applicants with clerical experience working in a hospital in the last 3 years followed by applicants with clerical experience working in a physician’s office in the last 3 years. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, type minimum 40 net w.p.m. and operate a computer terminal. Ability to prioritize and organize workload within a dynamic work environment. Ability to remain calm while dealing with competing, time-sensitive priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient information and health records. Ability to identify own strengths and weaknesses and showing initiative for improvement. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and accept change. Ability to be physically confined to an area due to job demands.
Evidence of: strong interpersonal and communication skills; initiative, flexibility, dependability in organizing and carrying out duties, thoroughness and attention to detail. Evidence of pleasant manner in relationships with patients, physicians, staff and public.
