The CVICU (3A8/7) is a busy Intensive Care Unit caring for adults post-cardiac surgery. The Unit Clerk is essential to the smooth and efficient operation of the unit. As initial contact person, the Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Working under general supervision, the Unit Clerk is responsible for undertaking reception duties and clerical duties for the unit. The successful candidate will be required to work from 1700 hours - 2300 hours Monday to Friday.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Medical terminology required. Well developed interpersonal and communication skills. Familiarity with hospital setting and basic functioning of general nursing unit. Typing and computer skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work and cope with frequent interruptions, noise and other nearby distractions.

CVICU experience is preferred.
