Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Unit Clerk provides clerical support, administrative duties and other related duties for the patient care unit to ensure efficient operation of unit activities. Coordinates confidential information and records relating to activities, communication, patient services and unit operations. This position will involve work with Provincial Staffing Services to assist with liaising our unit schedules and staffing levels. Additionally, there is extensive work supporting the use of electronic medical records for patients (Connect Care). Scheduling client/resident/patient test/treatments and arranging necessary transportation and performing other related duties as required. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Recent experience performing unit clerk duties is required, preferably in a mental health care environment. Accurate basic keyboarding skills and Microsoft Outlook competency required. Proficiency in the English language to communicate verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, preferably acquired through completion of a Medical Terminology course. Demonstrated ability to use various computer software packages.
