Passionate about caring for children and families? The 8 bed Pediatric Unit at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray is looking to fill an Undergraduate Nursing Employees (UNE) role. This role will allow you to gain valuable experience in the UNE practice by providing supervised, patient-centered care. UNEs deliver care within their competencies, seeking guidance as needed. This role allows you to deliver compassionate, skilled care to children (newborn to 16 years) and their families, using professional knowledge, clinical judgment, and nursing processes. The successful individual will provide direct pediatric care and develop strong assessment and intervention skills. You will use you communication skills as you advocate for families in a family-centered environment. You must be able to adapt to changing situations and prioritize effectively while building trust and working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. You will need good interpersonal and organizational skills and computer skills for Connect Care. Located in beautiful Fort McMurray which resides on Treaty 8 territory, the largest treaty by area in the history of Canada and on the traditional lands of the Metis. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for the nursing student employed as a UNE to consolidate the knowledge and skill acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The UNE is an unregulated member of the collaborative health care team who provides patient centred care with the supervision of the RN or RPN. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required are determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE.
Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
