If you are interested in working within an inter-professional team playing a key role in linking the needs of Rural Home Care clients with appropriate health and community services then this Therapy Assistant position will be of interest to you. The Therapist Assistant provides comprehensive services for clients within the program or service area in which they work. The Therapy Assistant ensures the level of therapeutic recreation practice in their clinical area is evidence based, patient and family centered and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. The Therapy Assistant completes assessment, treatment, education and management of the clients* and provides clinical support and consultation to the assigned program/service area(s). This position requires collaboration and communication with the health care team, confidentiality and a high level of professionalism The Therapy Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of therapeutic rehabilitation (e.g. Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Therapeutic Recreation), under the direction of a regulated rehabilitation therapist or recreation therapist, and in accordance with established practices and procedures. Please note that this position is 64 km south outside of the Calgary City Limits.

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Completion of an accredited post-secondary Therapy Assistant or Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies program. Active or eligible for registration with the Registered Professional membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) or equivalency. Handling, moving and lifting heavy or awkward equipment and/or individuals are required. Ability to perform all duties in accordance with related legislation. Intermediate level of computer skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong interpersonal skills.

Baccalaureate degree in Recreation Therapy Assistant, preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered. Minimum of two years current Therapy Assistant experience with one year in a community-based setting preferred. Recent experience working with acute clients and/or long-term clients with a focus on chronic disease management. Home Care experience preferred.
