Therapy Aide

Your opportunity is in Continuing Care at the Whispering Pines Lodge and the Type A beds (LTC) in the Grande Cache Hospital. You will assist with the implementation of basic individual or group programs as directed by the supervising Recreation Therapist in accordance with resident’s care plans. You have a strong interest in activities, and enjoy creative hobbies. You will collaborate closely with the Health Care team, including trained assistants, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, and Nursing to provide a comprehensive service for clients. You enjoy working with people, can relate to clients and families in a caring manner with respect and dignity, and work effectively as part of a team.

As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Completion of Grade 12.

Minimum high school diploma Home Care Aide (HCA) certificate or equivalent preferred Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required. Previous Personal Care Aide experience an asset. Related experience working with elderly or physically challenged individuals an asset. Computer skills in order to complete electronic charting is essential. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required.
