Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting key position available at the Chinook Regional Hospital. The Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC reports to the Operations Manager of Facilities, Maintenance & Equipment (FM&E) and is responsible for maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within the facility in accordance with AHS Standards and practices. Under limited supervision, the Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC exercises considerable initiative and judgement in this highly complex role while working in accordance with manuals, specifications, codes, and department policies. Due to the diversity and extensive interdependence of the building management system (BMS) and the HVAC systems, a wide range of training and experience is necessary to successfully carry out the duties of this position. You are integral in providing a safe environment for staff, patients, and the public. You will be required to travel to rural sites for various reasons including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, or providing training or advice to rural maintenance staff. As a Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC, you may perform maintenance, repair, alteration and installation of HVAC control devices, system configurations and air balancing.

Completion of a post-secondary education in a related trade or technology program.

Must have a minimum of (5) five years’ experience in HVAC / BMS controls and building maintenance preferably in a hospital setting. Experience with pneumatic controls operation and calibration. Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Direct Digital Controllers (DDC). Physically able to carry out the duties of the position: i.e. able to walk a significant portion of time, climb ladders, work in awkward positions, lift or move heavy material or equipment (up to 22 Kg), work in hot or dirty environments. A good understanding and working experience with computers and computer applications such as computerized maintenance management systems, Microsoft 365. An understanding of indoor air quality, HVAC system troubleshooting and ability to review drawings and specifications. Knowledge of energy management strategies. Excellent problem-solving skills required to successfully analyze and resolve system related problems. Strong inter-personal communication skills. Alberta Health Services Facilities Maintenance & Engineering is team oriented and client service focused; must have good interpersonal skills and complete repairs and installations with due consideration to patients, staff, and visitors; must be able to communicate clearly in English; both verbally and in writing.

Experienced as a Controls Technician, System Designer, Graphic Designer and/or Programming. Working knowledge of commissioning practices and documentation. “In classroom” training or equivalent. Additional trade certification: Electrician, Gasfitter, HVAC/R would be considered an asset. Knowledge of established safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Strong knowledge of Delta Control systems and networks is an asset.
