Join our Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Environmental Services leadership team! Alberta Health Services is looking for an enthusiastic, client-focused leader who has a passion for customer service and supervising a high-quality Environmental Services department at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. The Supervisor reports to the Manager and is responsible for maintaining facility cleaning operations at the site level. This position provides direction to front line workers and ensures the facility receives and maintains a clean environment including waste removal. As a key member of the Environmental Services team, you are responsible for leading and mentoring staff, promoting safe work environments, managing budgets, and implementing organizational and departmental initiatives. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

The position is responsible and accountable for: Human Resource management (recruitment, retention, probationary and annual performance reviews, and performance management). Ensure that appropriate quality and safety measures are in place and are compatible with IPC and WHS industry and Provincial standards. Making unit-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of all goals of Environmental Services. Assisting in monitoring, planning and organization of Housekeeping demands, setting staffing levels, development of work routines and maintaining accurate records. The supervisor promotes leadership in the identification of issues and assists in recommending and implementing solutions to those issues. Meets regularly with clinical customers to maintain sound relationships, reviews performance and manages escalated issues. Ensures the Manager as appropriate are informed of and aware of significant events and/or activities within facilities. The Supervisor is also responsible for: Ensuring Quality Audits are conducted at the specified frequency and that recommendations and follow up actions are taken. Implementation of the waste management program and practices. Overseeing the cleaning of facility furnishings, entrance matting, and any required project work.

Post secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Business and/or Service Management. (High School Diploma, supplemented with leadership, management or supervisory courses will be considered). Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership position. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a supervisor peer. Proficient computer skills (email, create documents using Word, update spreadsheets using Excel, collaboration virtually using teams or a similar platform). Must be able to function with a high degree of autonomy, demonstrate critical thinking skills and have the ability to motivate and inspire other to achieve common goals. Availability to work evening shifts on a regular basis and overnight shifts on an as needed basis. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Physically capable to lift, push and pull 50lbs on a regular basis.

Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment.

Healthcare experience, including knowledge of infection, prevention, and control guidelines and practices is preferred. Previous experience with industrial cleaning chemicals and equipment is an asset. Supervisory experience in a unionized working environment is preferred.
